A Series of Unfortunate Events -The BAD ASS Reporter The question was raised, and the answer was resounding and definite. With the Nutz v. Cutz series heading to a game seven, could this series surpass the greatest series ever played? The overwhelming answer was no way, not even close. But why not; why couldn’t this series match up to the Sanchez/Steamers series of ’05? The reasons ranged from the fact that the Dirty Sanchez came back from down 3 games to 1, to the dramatic game six win by Dirty Sanchez when they were one out from defeat. All reasons are valid and compelling, but there has to be more to it than that. This series has had two walk off victories of its own and was the second ever be tied at two games apiece. So if it’s not the games themselves that make this series sub-par, what are the reasons? I think the real answer is a little further under the surface, and may have more to do with the league as a whole rather than comparing these two series’. BAB 2005 not only had the first ever seven game series but also had two other series go to a game six and one series go five. The only sweep of the season was the BAB All Stars vs. The Scrubs. Each series was competitive, and each series had a good turn out for their games. In contrast BAB 2006 has played five series’. Three were sweeps; one went five, and then this seven game series. There has already been a forfeited series game this year, two series where the manager missed at least half of his team’s games and four games where one side could only field the league minimum five players. The final tally is one competitive series out of five. And the lone competitive series has already had two games where one side fielded twice as many players as the opposition. The result of all this has been one of the more forgettable seasons of BAB to date. In spite of the fact that the league has found a permanent field to play on and has the largest roster of players it has ever had. Post your thoughts and ideas regarding this season of BAB and what you would like to see changed next year on the SmackBoard and I will include them in a follow up article.
