ELMER JOHNSON FIELD -- SANTA CLARA (now defunct)
LOCATED:
Near intersection of Monroe/Bellomy in Santa Clara.DIMENSIONS: n/a; BAB portable fence used.
DANGER FACTOR: 4/5. Parking lot behind 1B dugout, Monroe Av. behind 3B dugout. Many close calls.
BOOT FACTOR: 5/5. City official gave BAB the permanent boot in February, 2006.
LAST USED: February 12, 2006
Elmer Johnson, AKA Washington, is one of the best kept fields, but easily the most dangerous. The backstop has no overhead screen, meaning foul balls land squarely on Monroe St. There is a parking lot just behind the RF dugout as well that houses not only BAB vehicles, but those of nearby residents. The field itself is OK, especially the grass, and RF provides an inviting target with its' short "porch" (actually, a path), but the league got the permanent boot in the first inning of the 2nd game of 2006.
