THOMAS RUSSELL MIDDLE SCHOOL -- MILPITAS
LOCATED: At northern end of Escuela Parkway, Milpitas
DIMENSIONS: n/a; portable BAB fence used.
DANGER FACTOR: 1½/5. Just a house in LF foul territory that can be hit with an Alvin-esque foul ball.
BOOT FACTOR: 2/5. Girl's softball team practices/plays here frequently, otherwise totally desolate.
LAST USED: February 12, 2006
A top of the line field that, without a doubt, is the most difficult to access. Players must park in a lot, then trek through a number of basketball courts and up a hill past another diamond before accessing the primary field. But once you get there you have one of the better fields around. It is surrounded to the east by 3 other diamonds--only 1 is BAB worthy--and beyond LF lies either an unfinished or obsolete diamond.
There is a path that runs behind the field that makes for a perfect fence-posting marker--no one has ever had to "count steps" here. In CF lies a portable building that proves to be an inviting target for BAD ASS sluggers. The dugouts are closed-top with plenty of height for taller players. Next to Irvington High, this field is probably the least convenient by car and by foot--one reason it is rarely used anymore despite its perks. It did host several of the historical Sanchez/Steamers games and would have hosted Game 7--but BAB got the boot.
